Michael Bay Is A Fucking Genius

I just saw Transformers. What a surprise! The film was actually pretty well done; not just an effects-driven extravaganza, it actually had more than enough story to hold it all together.

Don't get me wrong, there were one or two plot holes and at least one bit that dragged. But the holes weren't so glaring bad that you could drive Optimus Prime through.

(Incidentally, there's a teaser trailer for an unnamed movie by J. J. Abrams [Lost and Alias]. Here's a news report and what little IMDB has.)

Haven't seen it yet. I was trying to find a list of voice credits. I know that they cast Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime. If they'd chosen any other voice talent, it would be enough not to go see it.

I know that Frank Welker (voice of megatron in the 80s cartoon) was bounced, though I think he has a voice credit in the video game.

So I have to ask, did Star Scream sound like Star Scream or did they select another voice for him? What can I say, I like jets. ;)

I've read a lot of reviews calling Transformers a 2.5 hour product placement for the 2008 (?) Chevy Camaro.

Starscream lacks the distinct "Cobra Commander" voice, but he's still the coolest Decepticon in the film.

I suspect even the guy who legally changed his name to Optimus Prime would be proud of this film:

Saw the film this weekend. I wasn't disappointed. I think many of the film critics who complained weren't really paying attention.

I thought it was amusing that when Bumblebee first made his appearance by pretending to be a used car, that he was parked next to a pale yellow volkswagon (looked like V'ger). This was apparently a nod to the old animated series in which Bumble bee was a volkswagon not a chevy camero.

Despite the fact that many of the original voice talents weren't employed, hearing the familiar drawl of Peter Cullen's voice as Optimus Prime made everything "alright" and I could be satisfied even without Frank Welker (original Megatron) and Chris Latta (original Star Scream). :)

So, I walked away feeling pretty good. It was WAY better than the abomination of an animated film that was "Transformers the Movie" (1986).

It was enjoyable. If you like adventure, really cool transforming robots, and things that blow up, then transformers is the film.

Yep... I had a custom painted pinto squire wagon. Loved that little car (aka Little Blue).
